Comment: Although it is clear that an athlete from Sparta won several periodos-festivals, it is unclear whether it was Xenarkes who won them, as the text in Pausanias has already mentioned a Xenarkes, son of Philandrides from Stratus (Acarnania). It is likely that the second appearance of the name is an interpolation. For this reason, Farrington has him categorized as a doubtful Isthmionikes. See Farrington (2012), n. 699. NB: Moretti (1957), no. 386 recognizes there is a problem but blends the two Xenarkeses into one, but with a question mark, thus naming the Spartan athlete 'Xenarkes, son of Philandridas (?), from Sparta'.
