Comment: The athlete is known from two inscriptions: an honorary inscription erected for himself (Vollgraff 1919, no. 26, found in Argos), and an honorary inscription for his son, who was an athlete also (I.Didyma 183). Farrington (2012), n. 643 reads 'That Bassos does not claim in this inscription to be a periodonikes, although in terms of the periodos in Imperial times he could probably have done so (with one Pythian victory, one Nemean, six victories in the ἡ ἐξ Ἄργους ἀσπίς and two Capitoline victories), suggests that he did not yet regard himself as such (Is this a case of disdain for the periodos of Imperial times?).' As he does not, the victories that contributed to his five-times-periodonikes title added in the events below are based on the traditional periodonikes. The Argos inscription names over twenty victories at almost twenty festivals, and refers to more than 260 victories at other unnamed penteteric festivals.
