Subject of Pindar's 8th Isthmian Ode. I generally follow Farrington (2012), no. 1.45 and p. 114 note 257; Farrington based his dating on the dating of the poem. Victories at Isthmia and Nemea (lines 1-5) as well as 'the contest of Alcathoös' (in Megara) and at Epidauros (lines 66-8); it is suggested he was young, perhaps age category ageneioi, but it is not made explicit; line 66 reveals the discipline: the pankration. - PK
In line 66 the pankration is revealed as the discipline: probably he won at the same disciplines in all the contests mentioned in the poem, since no other disciplines are mentioned. As for the age group; it is never become explicit, but there are several references to youth (Isthm. 8.2, 8. 65b-68, and in l. 70). The reference to ἥβα suggests adolescence and puts Kleandros’ victory in the ἀγένειοι age-group (Pfeijffer 1998, 30). - EK
