| Comment: | Subject of Pindar's 8th Isthmian Ode. I generally follow Farrington (2012), no. 1.45 and p. 114 note 257; Farrington based his dating on the dating of the poem. Victories at Isthmia and Nemea (lines 1-5) as well as 'the contest of Alcathoös' (in Megara) and at Epidauros (lines 66-8); it is suggested he was young, perhaps age category ageneioi, but it is not made explicit; line 66 reveals the discipline: the pankration. - PK |
