Comment: I rely on Farrington (2012), no. 1.51 and p. 117 note 267 for the information, especially the dating, on this athlete - he references a passage from Pausanias, viz. 6.1.7, which says Polykles won with the tethrippon at Olympia and also won victories at Pytho, Nemea and the Isthmos. - PK Polykles had also won victories at the Pythia, Isthmia and Nemea. His statue formed part of a statue group of Spartan victors. Moretti 1957, no. 315 suggests his victory took place at the 85th Olympiad (= 440 BC), but does not give any arguments. Others have suggested the 88th and 89th Olympiads (= 428 or 424 BC). We may opt for the second half of the 5th century BC. - DL
