Comment: | Plato quotes a part of a poem by Simonides to Socrates. The language in the quoted lines is reminiscent of the way in which victors of Panhellenic agones are celebrated in e.g. Pindar. As Moretti also notes, it is very doubtful that this concerns an Olympic victory. See Moretti (1957) who refers to Bergk's Poetae Lyrici Graeci III, p. 385. |
