Comment: | Diallos is only mentioned in Pausanias as the first of the Ionians to be victorious in Olympia in the pankration for boys. Moretti (1957), no. 616 notes that this discipline was introduced in Olympia in 200 BC (145th Olympiad), hence the terminus post quem. Because it was the first victory of a Ionian boy, Moretti proposes a terminus ante quem not all too long after the introduction of the discipline at Olympia. He then suggests the 152nd Olympiad (=172 BC). [DvdL] |
