Philippi was founded in 356 BC giving us terminus post quem. For the terminus ante quem, Moretti (1957), no. 498 gives two indications: 1) the statue of Lampos with his chariot is placed amongst statues dating to the 5th and 4th century BC; 2) Pausanias tells us that Philippi was νεωτάτη among the cities of Macedonia. This would mean that the date of the statue must have preceded the foundation of Demetrias in Macedonia, founded during the reign of Demetrios Poliorketes (probably 294 BC). [DvdL]
