Comment: Glaukon's victory in chariot-racing is mentioned by Pausanias (6.16.9) and the statue base is preserved (IvO 178). He is also known to have been agonothete at the Panatheneia (ca. 280/279 BC: IG II(2), 3079). SEG 57.177 now suggests another date for Glaukon's agonothesia: 266/265 BC (for criticism: SEG 58.187). He was honoured by a royal family with a dedication in Olympia (IvO 296). Glaukon was also honoured by the Hellenes around 262-245 BC as evidenced by an inscription from Plataiai (SEG 61.352). The date of his victory can therefore be estimated around the first half of the 3rd century BC. Moretti (1957), 542 suggests the 127th Olympiad (=272 BC). [DvdL]
