Comment: | The statue of Agiadas seen by Pausanias was made by Serambos from Aegina. The artistic school of Aegina probably did not last after the loss of Aegina's independence in 458 BC, providing a terminus ante quem. As several other victors in the boys' boxing match are known, Moretti thinks Agiadas' victory should have taken place before 480 BC. He suggests at the 73rd Olympiad (= 488 BC). More cautiously, we can propose the start of the 5th c BC. |
