Comment: 448 BC?: Moretti 1957, no. 305 Arkesilaos won two Olympic victories in the chariot-race. He was the father of Lichas, who won his victory - in the name of the Theban or Boeotian people - at the time the Spartans were excluded from the Olympic games. This exclusion is dated to 420 BC (though some scholars believe the ban lasted from 420 to 400 BC). Given the son's victory in 420 BC, his father's victories must have taken place before that time. Moretti 1957, 305 argues that these victories need to be in the second half of the 5th century BC, because most victories in the chariot-race in the first half are known either with absolute certainty or high probability. His victories are likely therefore to date to the period 450-420 BC; Moretti suggests they took place at the 83rd and 84th Olympiad (=448 and 444 BC).
