| Comment: | The statue of Gnathon was made by Kallikles of Megara. Gnathon won his victory when he was very young. Moretti and others have suggested to date his victory to the 85th Olympiad (= 440 BC). The only indication however seems to be that his statue appeared next to the statues of the sons of Alkainetos. They won their victories at the 89 and 90th Olympiads (= 424 and 420 BC). So we may opt for the second half of the 5th century BC. |
