The statue of Anaxanders represents
him in praying modus. The epigram tesitifies an Olympic victory of his grandfather in pentathlon. Moretti 1957, no. 327 wishes to identify this victor with Akmatidas of Sparta (entry no. 19). His victory is dated to ca. 500-480 BC. Hence, a date for Anaxandros may reasonably have taken place in the second half of the 5th century BC. Assuming that is, that Akmatidas was indeed the grandfather of Anaxandros. Moretti suggests the 88th Olympiad (= 428 BC) for Anaxandros' victory.
