Polemon records the statue and inscription of Leon in Olympia. Eusthatius states that the Olympic
victory of Leon took place at the 85th Olympiad (= 440 BC). Others have identified this Leon with another Leon mentioned by Thucydides (3.92; 5.44-45; 6.61), Xenophon (Hell. 2.3.10) and Plutarch (Art. 21) active especially in the years between 426 and 411 BC. The identification is not certain, but Moretti 1957, no. 332 (contra Eusthatius) suggests the victory took place at the 89th Olympiad (= 424 BC). An estimated date during this period is therefore proposed.
