Pausanias saw the statue of this
Samian boxer, but notes that the epigram did not mention a name. The victor's trainer, Mykon set up the statue. The inscriptions also states that the Samians are the best among the Ionians for athletes and at naval warfare.
Moretti 1957, no. 399 uses the latter note to give an approximate date. Antipatros was the first of the Ionians to set up a statue at Olympia in 388 BC (entry no. 310) and Samos had lost its independence in 365 BC when it was conquered by Athenian forces. He then suggests the 100th Olympiad (= 382 BC).
