Comment: The statue of Pyrilampes was made by Pyrilampes of Messene (see entry no. 343). As an Ionian, his victory must be after the victory of Antipatros, who was the first of the Ionians to dedicate a statue at Olympia (entry no. 310). The statue of Pyrilampes and that of another victor from Ephesos (entry no. 350) surrounded a statue of Lysandros (Paus. 6.3.14). Moretti suggested the victory took place at the 106th Olympiad (= 356 BC). However, recently, the statue of Asamon made by Pyrilampes s has been redated to the mid-3rd century BC (see also entry no. 343 and 360). A more cautious dating to the 3rd century BC seems reasonable.
