Comment: | Arybbas was of the royal family of the Molossoi. A decree dating to 342 BC displays three crowns: one for the Pythia, and probably two for the Olympia. Both for the Pythia and one Olympia τελέωι is legible. The victory was therefore in chariot-racing, a depiction of a chariot supports this. Arybbas was close with Philippos II, hence the dating. Moretti 1957, no. 450 suggests one of his Olympic victories took place at the 109th Olympiad (= 344 BC). He does not discuss the other possible Olympic victory. - DL |
