Comment: | Moretti (1957), no. 471 records the victory as one by Duris from Samos, the tyrant and historian himself. But Pausanias' text clearly states that it was Duris' son, Skaios, who won the victory in boys' boxing. Pausanias (6.13.5) mentions that the victory of Skaios was won when the Samians were in exile from their island. This probably refers roughly to the period 350-324 BC (Moretti: 365-322 BC). Moretti suggests Skaios' victory to have taken place at the 114th Olympiad (= 324 BC). [DvdL] |
