Comment: | Pausanias (6.17.4) mentions that Akestor made the statue of Alexibios. The signature of Akestor from Argos in an inscription from Troezen might refer to the same Akestor (IG IV 772), as suggested by Moretti (1957), no. 483. Alexibios also appears in a victor list of the Lykaia probably dating to 304 BC (IG V.2 550, l. 18), although Moretti says 313 BC (and refers falsely to IG V.2 549). We may assume that both victories were won in roughly the same period, so we suggest that Alexibios was active some time between 325 and 275 BC. [DvdL] |
