Comment: | The statue of Nikandros was made by Daippos (Paus. 6.16.5), who is identified with Daippos of Sikyon, the son of the famous artist Lysippos of Sikyon (Plin. Nat. 34.66; 34.87). As Lysippos worked during the reign of Alexander the Great, his son was most likely active in the decades thereafter. Moretti (1957), no. 494 mentions that the heydays of Daippos were around the time of the 121st Olympiad (= 296 BC). [DvdL] |
