Comment: | Pausanias (6.12.5) records a statue of Aratos in Olympia, dedicated by the Corinthians. Plutarch (Arat. 3) also mentions several prizes won by Aratos in the pentathlon but does not specify at which contests. We may assume that his victory at the Olympic games was in the pentathlon-discipline. Aratos was also an important political leader of his hometown Sikyon. He lived from 271 until 213 BC. Moretti (1957), no. 547 suggests that Aratos' Olympic victory took place at the 137th Olympiad (= 232 BC). [DvdL] |
