Comment: | Origin not made explicit in the inscription, but added on the authority of Sarikakis. The honored athlete was the πρόπαππος of Etearchos, son of Etearchos, who erected the inscription. He was honoured for a victory in the Aktia. Since his father lived during the 1st c. BC (IG VI, 135), his son would have lived at the end of the 1st c. BC or the beginning of the 1st c. AD, i.e. during the reign of Augustus. |
