The statue of Pythokles was made by
Polykletes. This could have been either Polykletes the Elder or the Younger. Two statue base recording Pythokles as victor survive in Olympia: one dating to 5th century BC, the other to 1st century BC or 1st century AD. Another statue base recording the victory of Pythokles has been found in Rome (Bull. Com.). Possibly, the statue base was transported to Rome (after which a new one was made?). The statue bases do not indicate the discipline of Pythokles' victory/victories. He may have won more than one victory, the only certain dated one is the victory recorded in P.Oxy 222.
