Comment: | Thes statue of Androsthenes was made by Nikodamos, also from Mainalos. Two unique signatures of Nikodamos are preserved, probably dating to the first quarter of the 4th century BC. Hence, Moretti 1957, no. 336 believes the statue of Androsthenes was one of the earliest of his works. Thucydides gives a secure date for his first victory. Moretti 1957, no. 343 assumes that his second victory took place in the successive Olympiad (91st; 416 BC); though this cannot be certain (hence date range from 420 to 400 BC). |
