Comment: | Moretti 1957, no. 359 dates Damarchos' victory around the 5th/early 4th century BC, because most statues described by Pausanias in the vicinity of his statue date to this period. Moretti suggests the 95th Olympiad (= 400 BC). Pausanias records the story that Damarchos had turned himself into a wolf at a sacrifice to Lycian Zeus. Nine years later he was back human again. |
