Comment: | Men from Syracuse brought a sacrifice Dionysios I to Olympia and tried to bribe the father of Antipater to have his son proclaimed as a Syracusan. Antipater, however, wrote upon his statue he was of Milesian descent and the first of the Ionians to dedicate a statue at Olympia. His statue was made by Polykleites II. Moretti 1957, no. 385 presumes the embassy of Dionysios I went to Olympia in 388 BC, giving an exact date for Antipatros' victory. Yet, this is not certain. The reign of Dionysios I gives a certain date range. |
