Comment: | Stomios also won three times at the Nemea. He was commander of the Elean cavalry, when he set up trophies and killed in single combat the enemy's general, who had challenged him. The Eleans say that the general was from Sikyon. Pausanias suggests that the battle between Eleans and Sikyonians was after the battle at Leuktra (371 BC). Moretti 1957, no. 404 suggests Stomios' victory took place at the 101st Olympiad (= 376 BC). In any case, most of the surrounding statues date to the 4th century BC. |
