Comment: | The statue of Aristion was made by Polykleites II (also IvO 165). The characteristics of the inscription, according to Moretti, belong to the mid-4th century BC. Hence, it cannot have been Polykleites I. Nor can Aristion be identified with Ariston from an unknown city (see entry no. 222). Moretti 1957, no. 415 suggests the victory took place at the 103rd Olympiad (= 468 BC). |
