Comment: The statue of Asamon was made by Pyrilampes of Messene (see Person ID's 343, 346). Moretti (1957) initially dated the period of activity of this sculptor in the mid-4th century BC and suggested the victory took place at the 110th Olympiad (= 340 BC). However, recently, the date has been changed to the second half of the 3rd century BC (Siewert & Taeuber 2013, no. 26). A more cautious dating to the 3rd century BC seems reasonable, to which Moretti later agrees (1992).
