Comment: Moretti notes that IvO 186 contains the first known reference to the periodos (IAG, no. 46). Pausanias seems to have seen IvO 186, but as Moretti already noted, Pausanias was probably wrong in connecting δίς in the inscription both to his victories in Olympia ánd to victories at the periodos. We follow Moretti's interpretation.
