Comment: | According to Farrington (2012) this athlete was probably active in the third century. Moretti (1957) tentatively places his Olympic victories in 213, 217 and 221. The athlete is mentioned as being victorious in the periodos. Only his three olympic victories are mentioned in the inscription. We assume that the other periodos victories included the traditional periodos festivals. The athlete ends his inscription (I.Ephesos 1609) saying he won καὶ τοὺς / ἑτέρους ἀγῶνας / πάντας ('also all the other agones [where he participated]' - YP/CT His real name was lost, received this nickname due to his gray hair and bent-over way of running (Gouw) "wins all other games he participated in" (νεικήςασ καὶ τοὺσ ἑτέρουσ ἀγῶνασπάντασ). - IGL |
