IG VII 1856 and 1857 are victory lists, written on two sides of the same block of marble. The latter inscription is executed in a different hand, and no name is mentioned. Because both victory lists date to roughly the same period.
On the athlete's name, Farrington (2012), n. 369 reads: '‘Νικοφάνης’ is the restoration offered by IG VII, no. 1856. Holleaux (M. Holleaux, Notes d’Épigraphie Béotienne, in: BCH 16, 1892, 452 – 473, 461 n. 3, suggested ‘Νεικογένης’ without giving any reasons.'
