| Comment: | Automedes won three events (discus, javelin, wrestling) in the pentathlon at the Nemea and so was declared winner . Nothing is known of Automedes, except for what is given in Bacchyl. 9. In particular, there is nothing to suggest a date beyond the probable chronological limits of Bacchylides' career, that is, ca 500-ca 431 BC . That Bacchylides makes no attempt to give him any divine background may mean that he was not an aristocrat. |
