Comment: | Phrikias is the father of Hippokleas, who is the subject of Pindar's Pythian Ode 10 dated to 498 BC. As the hoplite-victories at the 65th, 66th, 67th, 72nd and 73th Olympiads (520, 516, 512, 492, 488 BC) are already known, at least according to Morettis' interpretations, the two victories of Phrikias at the Olympic games need to be dated between 508 and 500 BC. Moretti 1957, nos. 150, 156 suggests 68th and 69th Olympiads (= 508 and 504 BC), though he does not explain why the 70th Olympiad is not an option.. Phrikias also won at the Pythian games. - DL |
