Comment: | The statue of Agenor was made by Polykleites II, who worked mostly in the first half of the 4th c BC. The statue was dedicated by the Phokians, because Theopompos, the father of Agenor, was one of their proxenoi. Hence, the victory must likely date to a period of peaceful relations between the Thebans and Phokians. Moretti suggests the 105th Olympiad (= 360 BC). |
