Comment: Pausanias records that instead of Charmis, Chionis (see database) won his first victory at the 28th Olympiad. Eusebius and Iulius Africanus record Charmis however. Moretti 1957, no. 40 suggests that Charmis may have been confused with Chionis (also from Sparta) who is mentioned in the three successive stadion-victories. We follow him. Chionis, then, did not win four but three victories in the stadion-races of the Olympia. Eusebius and Iulius Africanus add that Charmis was on a diet of dried figs.
