| Comment: | The place of origin may seem problematic as Kamarina is known to have been destroyed by Syracuse in 552 BC; only to be rebuilt in 491 BC by Hippokrates of Gela (e.g. Thuc. 6.5). Maybe the destruction was not complete, or people continued to live at or close to the ruins, as suggested by Moretti 1957, no. 125. However, Parmenides could of course have been born in Kamarina before 552 BC. |
