The athlete's name means 'Good Daimon'; several people with this name are attested on inscriptions in northern parts of Africa (Egypt, Nubia, Cyrenaïca). This, and his nickname 'the Camel', support the idea that he was from the Alexandria in Egypt. His nickname likely referred to his stamina, which eventually cost him his life. Agathos Daimon died during the Olympia "after he prayed to Zeus to either give him the victor's laurel or death" (εὐξάμενος Ζηνι ἢ ςτεφος ἢ θάνατον) (Gouw).
According to SEG metadata, the inscription is found in Fragonisi, West Italy. This is incorrect. The first edition is in BCH 1964, vol. 88(1), p. 186-187 (fig. on p. 185), where it says that a man living in Miraka (nearby Olympia) found the stone in Fragonisi, which is a cemetery in Miraka.
