Comment: | The statue of Deinolochos was made by Kleon of Sikyon. The mother of Deinolochos, when pregnant, had a dream that her son was carrying a wreath. Hence, he was trainted to compete in the games and indeed became victor. Moretti 1957, no. 401 does not give any clue for the dating. But Deinolochos is mentioned immediately along with Troilos (see entry no.) who was victorious in the 102nd Olympiad (= 372 BC). Hence, an approximate date can be given. Moretti suggests the 100th Olympiad (= 380 BC). |
