Comment: | Moretti speculates the discipline to be boxing, wrestling or pankration, based on the allusion to the opponent's μακός τε πάχος τε (Moretti, 1970). The inscription is the oldest that has come down to us which recalls a victory achieved in Olympia, because those of Pantares (Person ID 2157) and of Akmatidas (Person ID 2162) are from the last years of the 6th century. Furthermore, the "informal" nature of the inscription must be observed, i.e. the race in which Kleombrotos won is not specified. Second Olympian from Sybaris after Philytas (Person ID 1876). Same as Person ID 3679. |
