There is a lot of uncertainty about this athlete: the source, IG 5.1, 114, only gives name and contest name; the origin is uncertain but assumed from the find spot of the source, viz. Sparta; the dating is also tentative, and Farrington (2012), no. 1.167 gives 120-140 A.D., but his note 475 at p. 147 suggests 120-150 A.D.; the dating is based on the fact that the source is a list of gerontes, which was supposedly an annual office, and one of the names on the list also appears in another list (viz. IG 5.1, 111) which can be dated to ca. 150-170 A.D. - if these persons are the same, then Nikasion also must have held office between 150-170 A.D. and his active athletic career might have been between 120-150 A.D., thus Farrington. - PK
