Comment: | According to Farrington (2012), this athlete was probably active between c. 163 and c. 183. Moretti (1957) refers to two olympic victories in stadion in 173 and in 177. - YP SEG 37.251 records Agathopous as periodonikes and adds that this victor is to be distinguished from another Marcus Aurelius Agathopous recorded in an inscription from Smyrna, i.e. I.Smyrna 633? Are we indeed dealing with two distinct victors? [DvdL] SEG 37.251 mentions that he was 4 times periodonikes, but without a mention of discipline or age category. - PS His trainer was Areios, son of Hermeias, from Alexandria (Egypt). Same as Person ID 10905. |
