Comment: | Leontiskos was from Messana, but maybe originally from Zancle (Paus. 6.2.1). He won twice at the Olympic games; once at the Pythia. Apparently, he would not wrestle his opponent, but bend his fingers. His statue was made by Pythagoras of Rhegium. Hence, at date around 480 to 450 BC. Moretti 1957, no. 285 gives his first victory at the 81st Olympiad (= 456 BC) and his second at the 82nd Olympiad (= 452 BC). - DL |
