Comment: | There has been some confusion whether Phrynon was victor in the stadion-race or the pankration. Iulius Africanus mentions him as stadion-victor; Eusebius' tekst lacks the information on the discipline of Phrynon. Diogenes Laertius however calls Phrynon a victor in pankration and Hippys mentions Arytamas as the stadion-victor of the 36th Olympiad (see also ID Arytamas). Following Moretti 1957, no. 58, it seems therefore most likely that Phrynon was the victor in pankration. Phrynon also fought against Pittakos of Mytilene and died in that battle (Eusebius; Iulius Africanus; Diogenes Laertius) |
