Comment: According to Cartledge (1989) this athlete must have been active somewhere between 220 and 240. First of his homecity to won in prestigious games. Gouw suggests he is the same Marcus Aurelius Abas that is mentioned in an inscription in the sanctuary of Eurymedon in Tymbriada, near Adada. If so, he would have attained the position of praefectus cohortis (and thus becoming a knight) in the Roman army and the position of high priest of the imperial cult. His son, Aurelius Dionysus, won the pankration for paides. In total, 15 victories: Rome, Puteoli, Neapolis, Argos, Epidauros, Sparta, Nikomedia, Ephesos (6), Kyzikos, Athens. Moretti (1992) has Abas listed as a 'doubtful Olympian' and refers to Spawforth (1989), who attests to the Olympia Kommodeia in Lakonia over the Olympia in Pisa.
