Comment: City of origin: as the inscription was found in Ephesos, Farrington assumes that the man originates here. The inscription says nothing about this. Discipline: I.Ephesos 1613 records an enormous amount of victories. Some of the amounts have not survived, but 14 victories are recorded for Nemea ([Ν]έμεια ιδʹ). I.Ephesos has supplemented four victories in Olympia, two (?) in Delphi, another 14 in Isthmia (?), three (?) at the Panathenaia, three at the Panhellenia, and three (?) at the Hadrianeia. As he has won so many competitions, he must have competed in various disciplines (see Moretti (1957), no. 871). Hence, l. 4 is supplemented [στ]άδιον δία[υλον πένταθλον] Gouw identifies this athlete as the one known from I.Ephesos 1133 (= Brunet 54). Brunet suggests they might indeed be the same person, but is hesitant, wherefore he has categorised them as two different numbers in his prosopography. Moretti, too, is against the possible identification of this athlete as Demaratos (Person ID 641).
