Comment: According to Cartledge (1989) this athlete was active as a runner during the reign of Emperor Septimius Severus (193-211). Moretti (1953) dates the original inscription to c. 210-212. - YP Polykrates won the penthatlon by consistantly winning the first three sections (in Nicaea and Ephesos), which adds to his atheltic prowess. He was made xystarch of the Deia Halieia in Philadelphia. His recorded victories span 2-3 years, and Gouw suggests Polykrates had a more succesful and unrecorded career at a later age in the andres category. Possibly Aurelius Polykrates (Gouw, Strasser).
